Varkala is a beautiful coastal area dotted with lush green coconut groves, sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. These cliffs are a singular rock formation, consisting of red laterite and soothing mineral springs, are declared a geological monument, and are known among geologists as Varkala Formation. Varkala, in fact, has the sole cliffs on the West Coast of Kerala. The tranquility of the clean sandy beaches freed from vendors and beggars has created it attractive to the visitors.
